A Day on the Horse Farm

Today we took our special friends to a horse farm, Cai de Vis! We had a wonderful time! Little “V” can’t walk and can’t use his right hand, but he really wanted to ride on the horse. The joy on his face was so precious.

A sweet woman named Vasilica, who works at the farm coordinating groups, refused to let us pay for our time at the farm and for our lunch. She was a blessing to us and we pray that God will continue to bless her and her family! We took the kids and their carers out for ice cream on the way home with the money not spent and will be able to do an extra event with them.

I want to give a special thank you to the children at Gulfhaven Mennonite Church in Gulfport, Mississippi. During VBS this past June, they raised enough money to pay for the bus to take us all to the farm! Thank you Children!!! You are great!

Thank you to my sweet friend Anca who joined us and pushed “V” up all the hills and all over the farm in his wheelchair! You rock!!

We had a great time riding the horse, watching a mini horse show and playing in the forest. We were able to take all of the children out today, which isn’t always possible because of their disabilities. It was a great blessing to be able to do this! Cai de Vis is definitely on our list of places to go back to!!!!

Christmas Shoeboxes

It may only be August but we are busy planning Christmas! I have gotten about 120 children sponsored for Christmas boxes. I still have a handful of boys and girls over the age of 12,if any one is interested in sponsoring an individual child.

While we can and do pass out boxes for all ages, we are specifically in need of boxes for boys over the age of 12. I don’t know why, but the majority of those in the orphanages are teen boys. These boxes don’t need to be big. The boys are happy with toiletries with a body spray, cans of chips, snacks, a pack of cards, and of course, candy!

We have children of all ages, so boxes for boys and girls of all ages are welcome!

Here is the link to a short promo video. Feel free to share at church and on social media!

Camp is over, but summer is still here!

We just finished up 3 weeks of camp! That is 20 days! Plus a presentation at church with 40 some of those who came to camp. We had over 200 campers and teen helpers. We had 12 Americans, half of whom stayed for more than one week! We had a wonderful couple from Scotland. We had 10 very hard working and dedicated ladies who came with children from 6 different orphanages. And we had 11 amazing women, all of whom I call friends, who volunteered their time and helped with so much at camp; whether they were in the kitchen or translating or teaching, they were ready to go! And one pretty great husband cooking for us all! I could NOT have done camp without all of those involved. Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who sponsored campers. At the last minute, the exchange rate got very good and we have extra money ( of course the exchange rate went back down) for field trips and events for the rest of the summer and fall.

I experienced some new things in camp this year. Including a short lived stomach virus that was passed on to everyone over the course of 2 weeks; but hey, at least the kids learned to share!

I was so happy with my teens from Stroiesti . They were hard workers and brought with them skits and songs for the younger campers. They made me proud!

Peer pressure can be good when the water slide is involved! And leading worship for 3 weeks is an excellent way to loose weight!

Sneaking Jesus into camp lessons for children from the state orphanage wasn’t hard at all! We got to share the gospel with children one on one and in groups. Everyone left with a New Testament or Christian outreach magazine.

We got to meet so many new people and to visit with new friends. Only one kid blew his last chance at camp and won’t be returning; for the safety of everyone it is the right decision.

Thank you to everyone for making camp possible! God bless you!!

Website down/Paypal

You may have noticed the MBK website is down.  Please do not use the donation button on the website at this time. While the money does go to MBK, it goes to the Romanian office and we are unable to provide a tax write off to you.  (It is also a bit more complicated for us to receive these funds.) If you have sent money to this account, please let us know and we can confirm that we received it.

Use this link below.  It is tagged for our specific ministry, but it is a good idea to add a note as well. This goes to the US office and can be used as a tax write off!

I am still working on how to make a button on wordpress.

Summer camp is coming

We are fully sponsored for camp!  Thank you to everyone who was able to sponsor a camper. Now, we are asking for prayer!!

Please pray for:

  1. All the campers coming.  We have around 200 campers and 40 teen volunteers (team leaders and kitchen help) coming over the course of 3 weeks. Pray for open hearts for God’s Word!
  2. For the children from the orphanage, while we are not allowed to share the full Gospel with them, we are able to share the love of Jesus with them.  We will be telling stories from the Bible about young people and children with courage.
  3. For our adult leaders!  We have 13 Americans coming at different points during the camps, a lovely couple from Scotland coming for our first week of camp, 11 Romanian leaders over the course of the 3 weeks, 9 instructors from the 5 different orphanages, and for me…who gets to be in charge of all the crazy! We need your prayers!!!
  4. Good weather. The weather forecast for week one is rain, rain, rain! We need sun, sun, sun, and hot, hot, hot!!!!
  5. Camp boxes!  The last of our supplies from America are still in route! The shipper messed up again this year!!!  We have most of our supplies, but of course we would like to have them all for camp. Right now, the boxes are scheduled to appear sometime during camp #2!!
  6. Praise the Lord for providing all the funds need for camp!!!  And they said we wouldn’t be able to fully fund 3 camps!!!
  7. God to be glorified through out all 3 weeks of camp!

Internet is weak to non-existent at camp, but I hope to post a couple of pictures while there!!

Camp Prep!

I remember when rehearsing a play, my mother would tell us, if you don’t hate it by show time, then you didn’t rehears it enough. My dad would say the same thing about learning to play a song.    I am almost to the point of “hating” outer space!  But there is still so much prep work to be done. But secretly, I love the planning and organizing part of camp as much as camp itself!

Space camp is a full adventure camp, where children will not only learn about outerspace, but learn who created it and about the man who came to save all of those who live on planet Earth!

I have received all our craft supplies; Thank you New Harvest Church!!  And as of yesterday, our camper lists are finalized.  Our 3 camps are full. At last count, we had 227 campers and teen volunteers over the course of 3 weeks. We have some great American teams coming.  Some of our team members are even staying for 2 or 3 camps!!

This year, along with our regular Bible camp, we have a camp set up for children from the state orphanages. At this camp, we are not allowed to share a Gospel message; however, we will share Bible stories and God’s love with the children.  The lessons are different from the other camps, in that they will focus on children and young people in the Bible who showed courage: Daniel, David, Esther, Miriam, and the boy who gave his fish and bread to Jesus.

We also for the first time have an English camp. This camp is made up solely of children, who pay to go to camp. We are full and even have a waiting list.  There is a need in Romania not only for English camps, but for CHRISTIAN English camps. We are praying for God to lead us in whatever direction He wants as we look at the possibility of English camps as a source of not only ministry, but a way to raise money for other outreach activities.

We are still in need of 10-14 sponsors for the orphanage camp. Our Gospel camp is fully sponsored.  This is depending on all pledged sponsors follow through.   If you would like to be part of sending a child to camp, please contact me in the comment section or by email: melissaosborne@hotmail.com

Please join us in praying for all 227+ children and teens who will come to camp, along with all the leaders from America and Romania!
