Children’s Day

We gave our Sunday School children little packs with goodies and juice to celebrate Children’s Day on June 1st!

School Another Way

Here in Romania, the week before spring break is called “Scoala Altfel” or School another way.  Many teachers take their kids on field trips or bring in special guests or use the week to do fun stuff.  The kindergarten in Stroiesti is usually unable to do something super special because the children are little and many of the older children get out of school early and come and pick up their little siblings.

This is only our second year here in Romania for Easter and School  Another Way…we are often in America for Easter.  I thought maybe we could do something special for the children in the kindergarten.  My mom brought us craft projects and I was able to bring one craft to the children on Monday (colored Easter magnets), Tuesday (scratch off crosses), and Wednesday( glittery egg ornaments).  On Thursday, I went to McDonalds and got 65 Happy Meals (the parents had sent in money to pay for their children).  The kids were so excited to have their Happy Meals.

After lunch, they kids participated in their first Easter Egg Hunt.  It was humbling to realize that other than Matt, none of these children had ever hunted for Easter eggs.  My helper Moms hid the eggs in the “gym” and each child got to find 3 eggs.  One of Matt’s class mates got 6  and quickly gave up 3 with a smile.  I had extra eggs for those who couldn’t find 3 eggs. We did the egg hunt 3 times, once for each class.  And there were no tears….I’ve never been to an egg hunt without tears!

Thank you to the teachers and mom and my parents who helped make Scoala Altfel special for the kindergarten children!

Palm Sunday

The children of Stroiesti did a wonderful job with their Palm Sunday Program at Diakonia Church.  It was the first time we had done our Easter program at the church. Each year there is a program, but no really shows up, so we decided to go to the city.  The kids did a great job on their verses and poems.  We are still working on singing, but we always sing in praise! We are blessed by all the folks at Diakonia church and are grateful to the leadership who fully supports what we are doing in Stroiesti.

Pizza Party at Patti Chips

33 kids and teens and one mom from Stroiesti were able to join us in Dorohoi for a pizza party with 30 children or so from the orphanage.  We again were able to meet at Patti Chips, where are Bible lesson turned into  lunch time evangelism. Ema and her friend Mora lead songs and a sweet lesson.  We did two crafts and had some yummy pizza.  After lunch, the kids were taken to the park to play!

Four children from the orphanage were taken shopping by their sponsor (or by proxy).  Little Miss M got a handmade quilt from her sponsor in America.  Everyone had a great time and it was a great spring break field trip!

Sweet Olivia and the Sheep

Olivia turned 2 years old on April 13. We had cupcakes and opened presents as a family.  On Saturday, I made a Princess cake and Bogdan made pizza. It was a beautiful day.  In the evening, we went with some neighbors to the sheep folds and got to see over 300 baby sheep! So much fun and great way for Olivia to spend her “ha-ppy Day!”
