Christmas Shoeboxes Part 2: Dorohoi

We gave out 138 boxes to the children in the orphanage. Thank you to everyone to who made a box for these wonderful children. Our dear friends, Steve and Wendy in Texas sponsored two pizza parties for the children and teens.  They send a ton of candy and a craft project for the children.  We had the party at Patti-Chips and the owners provide beverages for everyone on the house!  We want to thank Autonam car rental for providing a large van free of charge so that we could take all the gifts as well as some medicines, shoes, and puzzles for the children at the orphanage.  The youth from Maranatha Baptist Church came and sang carols to the children.  For the 30 new boys, it was probably the first time they had heard the true meaning of Christmas.

One of our little girls was in the hospital and we went to visit her in order to give her her shoebox.  We had 8 extra boxes with us.  There were 8 other children on the floor with our sweet girl!!!!  We felt so blessed to be able to bring extra cheer to children who had to spend the Christmastime in the hospital.  I’m so amazed at how God works out the details so that no one was left out!

Christmas Shoeboxes Part 1: Stroiesti

We gave out over 180 Christmas Shoeboxes this year at our annual Stroiesti Christmas program.  The children and teens in our Sunday school classes prepared songs, verses, and the Christmas Alphabet.  The choir from Diakonia church sang and supported the children.

Over 70 of the boxes were sponsored for specific children. These children attend Sunday School regularly, or have older siblings who attend.  We ran out of boys boxes early, but the older boys were happy to get a girl box when given the choice of a girl box or no box.  We’ll work on this for next year.

Thank you to everyone who packed a special box filled with Christmas Joy and the love of Jesus for those children who don’t always remember why we have Christmas.  For many of these children, the MBK Christmas box is the only gift they receive for Christmas. Thank you for blessing these children!

St. Nicholas Day

We promised the kids in the village a field trip. They chose to go to McDonalds. Okay, that’s easy. The trip was scheduled for December 6th. My husband’s birthday. He was fine with that, even though McD’s isn’t his favorite…he is a chef after all. The plan was to take the kids to church, and then they would walk to McDonalds, do a craft project and eat.

All went according to plan, except I couldn’t be there.  I was still restricted to staying at home because of shingles. So my husband led a group of 45+kids from the village on this field trip.  Our volunteers where able to join them at McDonalds.  He also gave each child at church a chocolate St. Nicholas (Santa!). Thank you my dear sweet husband, for giving up part of your birthday to serve these precious children!! My husband is my hero!

A visit with our special friends

After I was misdiagnosed with migraines, but before I was correctly diagnosed with shingles, we went to visit the children at the special needs orphanage. It is highly unlikely that I infected any of the children and they probably already had chicken pox as small ones.

Anyways, Roxana and I went to visit the children. We brought them a specially requested snack: potato chips (and we threw in some clementines as well). We brought them blocks and some toys as well. It was so much fun playing with them on the floor. Helping the little ones build towers and knock them down. The older children tried to build the buildings on the box.mihoveni 014a

We also had a craft project for them–stand up Baby Jesus in the Manger.  They enjoyed coloring, but really they just wanted to play with scissors…thankfully, I brought the safety scissors!mihoveni 24mihoveni 008

We brought some boxes of clothes as well and let the staff know there was stuff for them as well… We want the staff know they are appreciated as well. One of the older boys found a tweed jacket and modeled it for us. They were all so excited to get some new clothes. Roxana told me every time she goes there she sees the children in the same clothes and she’s been going there for almost a year.

Somehow the children got ahold of a toy catalog from a local store. They made sure we knew what they wanted for Christmas. So funny!!

I just love being able to visit these precious children. We are already making plans for our Christmas visit.
