Winter wear 2014

Thank you again to the folks at New Harvest Church!  Every year, they send us hand made hats, scarves, and mittens for the children and teens in Stroiesti!  And this year was no exception.  They loved picking out new hats and this year the girls even got head bands to keep their ears warm. They were very impressed with them! Thank so much for loving on us. We were so blessed this year, that we are taking the extras to the orphanage next week–passing on the blessing. Thank you New Harvest!

Christmas Box Sponsors 2014

Thank you to everyone who made up Christmas shoeboxes for the children in Romania.  This year, the children in Stroiesti will receive boxes from Texas, New York, Mississippi, Tennessee, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.  I’ve even heard that we have some boxes coming from Alaska!  Thank you to all the churches, offices, school groups, families and individuals that made up boxes.  These boxes are not only a fun Christmas present for the children.  For some, the Christmas box is the only gift they will receive at Christmas time. We use these boxes as a ministry tool.  The children come to our Christmas program where the children and teens in our Sunday school classes perform skits, songs, and recite verses and poems.  The Gospel message is shared at this Christmas program.  For most of those who attend, it is the only time each year that they hear the real meaning of Christmas. We know that most of the children who come are coming just to get a Christmas box, but we use that opportunity to tell them about Jesus.

Thank you again to everyone who packed up boxes–filled with love and hope! You have brought smiles to faces of so many children and have shared the love of Jesus!

Here are pictures of some of the folks who made up boxes.  I’m hoping to get some more pictures, so this is only part 1.

Teen Camp Reunion

Saturday, we were able to bring together the campers from Teen Camp.  The Teens from Stroiesti took a minibus to Dorohoi where we met with the teens from the orphanage.  Alina, MBK purity presenter, came and continued the lessons she taught in camp. She talked about relationships and how to prepare for a healthy, future relationship.  Alina is amazing with the teens and they really pay attention to what she has to say. The information was hard to swallow sometimes, but it was important for them to hear. After lunch, (spaghetti made by Bogdan and Andrei) we all went to the park to hang out and socialize.  It was a beautiful sunny day, even if it was cold. We love that the teens are able to keep in contact, and not just through facebook. There were tears again when everyone said goodbye!

Oh, and if anyone didn’t know, trying to get a group of teens to take a picture is like trying to herd cat.  WOW!

First Snow of the Season

It probably won’t last, but that’s ok. The first snow is the first snow.  It happened to be Olivia’s first snow ever. Though, I don’t think she was very impressed!  Matt wanted more snow to make a snowman, but was happy to run around and play fotbal! (Real Romanians don’t let a little snow prevent them from playing the beautiful game!)

Introducing Adi and Iulia

We are so excited that Adi and Iulia have joined us as the new teen Sunday School teachers.  These amazing volunteers are members of Diakonia Church and Adi is one of the pastors.  Iulia works with the 2nd-5th graders at the church too.  They have 3 children of their own and are in the process of moving from an apartment to a house.

Twice a month the make the trek to Stroiesti and work with the teens. They are doing a John MacArthur study called “The Fundamental Elements of Faith.”  The teens are enjoying the study. When asked what they thoughts of their new teachers and the study, the responses were “Oh, it’s really interesting,” “useful,”  “not hard to understand, but not too easy,” “[Adi and Iulia] are great; we get along great!” “they are really nice.”  The girls love having a woman in the classroom to give the female perspective as well.

Adi and Iulia ask for prayers for their work with the teens as well as for their family.

Last year’s teacher, Dinu is currently in England. He decided to try to find work and have an adventure while he was still single.  Can’t blame him and we appreciate all of his help and efforts with the teens last year. They had a great time and all came back, so it must of been a great year!  We wish Dinu well and pray that God will give him another opportunity to work with youth again, since he did such a great job!

KidzFest 2014

Three days of great children ministry in the city.  The folks from KidzRomania in Bucharest came and did Bible lessons, puppet shows, songs, games and more. The kids came from all over the city and from Stroiesti village.  The teens from Stroiesti were volunteers and for all of them it was their first time volunteering.  It was a great experience for them.

I had wanted Paula and her brothers to come each day.  But Paula couldn’t come on Friday afternoon, because her went to school in the afternoon.  My wonderful husband went to pick up her brothers and we knew we’d see Paula the next day.  Thirty minute later we saw some thirty kids walking down the street.  And up walks Paula with her whole class.  Of all the classes in the entire city, the one teacher who signed up her students for the Kidzfest was Paula’s 3rd grade class.  Now, that is a very cool “God is the details” moment.

The Reason I don’t blog as often as I should

I’ve really meant to blog more.  We’ve been doing lots of ministry.  Good intentions and all.  But I have these two little people in my house and I just can’t keep my eyes off them.  They are too cute…and a little mischievous..sometimes.  So it is early morning and Livy is playing and Matt is sleeping….and I’m hoping the inconstant quality of the internet won’t fail me now, so I can actually post the reason why my blogs have gotten to be less frequent.
