Springtime on the Farm

Winter finally ended the first of April, but in less than a month, we have reached summer weather.  I don’t think we got  a spring this year!

To day is May 1st. Happy May Day!  May 1st is a national holiday here and since Sunday is Easter, we have another vacation. We just finished spring break 2 weeks ago and now have about another week for Easter.  I’m not complaining!

Our garden is all planted, except for a few more seedlings that need a couple more weeks to grow until they are transplanted.  But all the seedlings I planted in March–thanks Brother–have been happily transplanted and are doing well.  We have peppers, egg plants, watermelon, brussel sprouts, lettuce and so much more. Our fields have been planted with corn for corn meal, corn for pop corn and potatoes.  We haven’t had any rain since the crops were planted, and we are praying for some rain! We are able to water the garden, but its impossible to water the fields.  More than once, we have run out of water and have had to let the well sit for a couple of hours to fill up again. Praying for rain.  We hope to have a good amount of vegetables to use at summer camp and a good harvest in the fall.  We’d like to have enough potatoes and corn meal to give to the orphanage and to save for camp next year. We got three little ducklings for Matt.  One escaped, but we still have 2 happy little ducks.  I’m amazed at how fast they grow!

Matt is always outside.  He loves being outside, especially with Bogdan and 2 of the boys from the village.  One of the boys is working to save money to go back to high school and the other  one is using the money to help his family.  Bogdan really needs the help in the garden and around the yard and the boys are very willing to help out. Its become an un-offical mentoring program for them. The boys are doing well with a positive male role model and even came to church with us last week!

Matt is growing and seems to get cuter each day.  My little baby isn’t a baby anymore and is so independent.  He thinks he’s bigger than he really is and is always trying to get into something.  He’s so sweet and cuddly.  I just love him.DSCN9610 DSCN9594

Sweet corn, potatoes, lettuce, radish, carrots, spinach, pinto beans, green beans, red beets, broccoli, cabbage, candy onions, strawberries, eggplant, and have a whole host of plants waiting till danger of frost is past. Will pray for rain for your crops. We’ve had spring rains and so the lawnmower has been going. Hi to Bogdan, from Allen
