The Easter Program

On Sunday the children in Sunday School had their Easter program.  They sang songs and recited Bible verses and poems in English.  Some of the kids did a great newscast, direct from the Empty tomb!  I was very impressed with my lead reporter!  Paster Tibi came from Diakonia to give a great message for the kids. We had very few parents and guest come this year.  I think it was because I made it clear there would be no presents given.  We did give plastic eggs with candy and chocolate rabbits though!

Easter Blessings

When God tells you to do something, just do it, even if you think its insignificant.  Wait and see what God really has in mind.

One mother sent me a note asking for help.  She had nothing to put on the table for Easter.  Her husband has been out of work for a while and does daily work around the village for less than $5 a day.  The oldest son, who had worked and provide much for his younger siblings, is currently in jail serving a 3 year term.  His mother says he’s innocent, I don’t know, I don’t care, he was providing for his family and now he can’t.  The 16 year old daughter has moved in with her much older boyfriend because she just couldn’t take it anymore at home.

There are 2 children at home who are my students.  They also come to Sunday School.  They are so sweet and I just love them.  I decide to make them a fun Easter bunny cake.  I felt compelled to make them a cake.

DSCN9620 I arrived at their house with a box of food, including chicken, pork, and eggs since their chickens were stolen. The kids were outside with a neighbor boy, waiting for me.  The mother came out when I arrived.  I brought out the cake and the kids were so excited.  The mother started crying.  She said, “today is my baby boy’s birthday and we don’t have a cake for him.” I knew then, why I felt so compelled to make a cake for these children. To make a special day for him.  I had packed a bag with toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, t shirts, etc.  I had put in some chocolate bars.  I pulled them out and gave them to little boy along with a pack of Transformer toothbrushes–so cool.  He was happy!

I sat and talked with the mother. She told me that her daughter in the 2nd grade was so fearful.  Wanting to check the door was locked and terrified if the fire was still going when they all went to sleep.  I pulled her on my lap and told her, she should pray when she felt scared.  We talked about Jesus and how we can have peace in our hearts with Jesus.  She gave me a huge hug.  She also liked the Bible story book I put in the bag for them.  I put in a New Testament as well for the parents.

Usually, I would have put in a few groceries and deliver them.  I felt like I needed to do more this family and I saw what a blessing it was. Listen when God tells you to do something.

Springtime on the Farm

Winter finally ended the first of April, but in less than a month, we have reached summer weather.  I don’t think we got  a spring this year!

To day is May 1st. Happy May Day!  May 1st is a national holiday here and since Sunday is Easter, we have another vacation. We just finished spring break 2 weeks ago and now have about another week for Easter.  I’m not complaining!

Our garden is all planted, except for a few more seedlings that need a couple more weeks to grow until they are transplanted.  But all the seedlings I planted in March–thanks Brother–have been happily transplanted and are doing well.  We have peppers, egg plants, watermelon, brussel sprouts, lettuce and so much more. Our fields have been planted with corn for corn meal, corn for pop corn and potatoes.  We haven’t had any rain since the crops were planted, and we are praying for some rain! We are able to water the garden, but its impossible to water the fields.  More than once, we have run out of water and have had to let the well sit for a couple of hours to fill up again. Praying for rain.  We hope to have a good amount of vegetables to use at summer camp and a good harvest in the fall.  We’d like to have enough potatoes and corn meal to give to the orphanage and to save for camp next year. We got three little ducklings for Matt.  One escaped, but we still have 2 happy little ducks.  I’m amazed at how fast they grow!

Matt is always outside.  He loves being outside, especially with Bogdan and 2 of the boys from the village.  One of the boys is working to save money to go back to high school and the other  one is using the money to help his family.  Bogdan really needs the help in the garden and around the yard and the boys are very willing to help out. Its become an un-offical mentoring program for them. The boys are doing well with a positive male role model and even came to church with us last week!

Matt is growing and seems to get cuter each day.  My little baby isn’t a baby anymore and is so independent.  He thinks he’s bigger than he really is and is always trying to get into something.  He’s so sweet and cuddly.  I just love him.DSCN9610 DSCN9594
